A few weeks ago I was looking online at all the swoon worthy stores I absolutely love for some new buffalo check curtains. You know the kind…the kind where you drool over the different catalogs and wish that every. single. item. was in your home. The ones that will cost you your first-born for ONE item. I had been dreaming of buffalo check curtains for a while now and my mind was made up about it. There was no turning back! I love to change-up my decor so much with the seasons so I wanted something neutral but still had a little pizzaz and interest to them! So many of the curtains that I loved were at least $70 PER PANEL. SAY WHAAAAAAT?! That’s just not in our budget right now. Not when I have at least 3 windows to cover! As I was scouring the internet with no luck, it dawned on me! Why not DIY buffalo check curtains by using a tablecloth instead!? I felt like a pure genius! I mean, Geometry in school wasn’t my strong suit but they’re similar shapes right?!
I found these tablecloths at a local department store and the dimensions were 60″x84″ (similar here). They were originally $24 but I got them for Half off! Score!
I also purchased some drapery rings for around $7. These so happened to be from Walmart. They are a pretty bronze finish to match my existing curtain rod and are pretty sturdy (similar here)!
Measuring it out:
I ended up spreading the tablecloth across my couch since I needed a large space to work with! The town home we are living in is pretty small so Mama’s gotta make do!
I realized that I needed to space out my drapery rings about every 9″ or so, give or take a little. If you are an “everything must be exact” type of person, I’m sorry. I sort of just winged it! I was winging everything today! My curtains, my eyeliner, life, really. It was that sort of day! Ha!
Attaching the rings:
I made a pleat on either side and put a drapery ring on each and then worked my way from one side to the other. Every nine inches, I pinched one bit of the material and pinched another bit of the material and pushed those pinches together to make a pleat and put a drapery ring on it. There were seven total in the package and it ended up being just enough!
I think there is a HUGE difference from the before:
To the after:
I am so in love with these easy and cheap DIY buffalo check curtains! It cost me about $80 total for 4 panels and drapery rings which was enough to cover one large window and 2 smaller windows. They add so much to the space while still being neutral! To me they’re both classy and casual! Which is absolutely perfect for this yoga pants wearing gal. Bonus for the hubs: They block the light so there’s no glare on the T.V. which was his one request. He’s happy and I’m happy! Ha!
What do you think? Have you ever thought about turning tablecloths into curtains?
