I can’t believe I’m writing this. This project was so easy but I thought it was too great not to share! If you already didn’t know, I have a mantle that I absolutely looooove (you can read a little bit about it more here). Like, I love it so much that if my husband said it’s either him or the mantle, it would take me a second to think about it 😉. Totally kidding. He would never do that. I don’t think he’d like my answer. TOTALLY KIDDING AGAIN😂. Anyway, I love this thing. We are renting and do not have an actual fireplace in our home. So, I needed something to fill this space where the actual hearth would be and I think I’ve come up with THE PERFECT spring time DIY faux fireplace insert solution!
To start, I painted the wall inside the mantle the most perfect hearth-y (that’s a word right 😉?) shade in Sherwin-Williams “Tricorn Black” to make it look a little more realistic. I’m trying to not do too much to the walls so we don’t have fix a bunch before we move. It won’t take me long to paint this back when the time comes!
I had a set of 3 metal wall decor pieces on hand already. Working in sections, I basically sprayed each metal wire down with this Krylon All-Purpose Spray Adhesive.
Then I took a big pinch of moss (like this one here)…
…and slid it down the wire. There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason on where to place it, just go for it!
Your hands will totally turn green and sticky, so I would suggest wearing gloves if that bothers you. I found though that the bigger pinch of moss you grab, the less likely you’ll get glue on your fingers. I can’t believe I didn’t think about that till halfway through completing my second metal piece😜.
After they dried (they dry super quick) I used these Command Strips hooks to hang.
Boom! All done!
See? I loved how it turned out! What a super easy DIY faux fireplace insert! If you need some more faux fireplace inspiration, go here to this post where I share a lot of ideas from such talented people!
