Girl, if this doormat doesn’t bring you back to your younger days…
You know the ones. The ones where you could blare your music in the car as loud as you wanted, the windows down, and not a care in the world? If this doesn’t, then I don’t know what will!
I was totally inspired to make this Halloween doormat while browsing Pinterest. If you’re wanting to add some cute Halloween decor to your home, here’s a quick and easy Halloween doormat tutorial!

- blank doormat
- black acrylic paint
- foam brush
- small paint brush
- contact paper
- X-acto Knife
- Sewing Pins (not pictured)
- your fave text printed from your printer
First, lay out your doormat and decide how big you want your text to be. For me, I wanted it to mostly take up the whole mat. Once you’ve decided, print out your text from your printer. Tape the printed pages over the contact paper and then layer it on a piece of cardboard for cutting. That will help you to not cut through and damage anything under it.Use your X-acto knife to cut out the text leaving a “stencil” behind.
After you cut out all the stencils, it will look something like this:
Then trim around them to remove the excess so that you can arrange them on your doormat. Make sure they’re straight! After you’ve decided where you wanted your words to go, pin the stencils right in place using the sewing pins.
Don’t forget to pin the insides of your letters too!
Next, take the black acrylic paint and a thin paint brush and paint in the words. If you’re text is bigger and bulkier, you can totally use a foam brush but since my text was a script type font, I opted to use the paint brush to really get in there! You will use quite a bit of paint because the doormat will soak it up, so make sure you have a bit of paint on hand!
Remove your stencils from the mat and touch up any words, fill in any punctuation if necessary, and then let it completely dry. Now, you have a really stinkin’ cute doormat and I can almost bet you have a song stuck in your head too!
After you make this quick and easy Halloween doormat, I bet you’ll get so many compliments from all your Momma friends who come over for coffee or a glass of wine!
