“You’re doing the best you can. Give yourself some grace,” are the words I repeat back to myself on what feels like a daily basis. Navigating through the day being Wife, Mom, chauffeur, chef, entertainer, housekeeper is crazy most of the time and I feel like I’m wingin’ it most days. I bet you know EXACTLY how I feel…
Every morning with sleepiness still in my eyes, I make a cup (most of the time it’s cups) of coffee to get the day rolling. The day usually starts with getting the household fed and the kid’s ready and out the door for school. Somebody’s socks don’t feel right in their shoes or there’s a library book that has gone missing right before library day. Somehow we still always manage to run late though no matter how early we get up🤦.
Oh yea, add some errands to that daily to-do list that I need to check off. It’s usually time to go grocery shopping before I know it. Oops! There’s also doctor’s appointments I have to run the kids to because I completely forgot to schedule checkup’s for them six months ago. Mom of the stinkin’ year right here!
Let’s not even talk about the last time I actually scheduled my own dental or hair appointment. There is a good chance I have at least 2 cavities and 3 days of dry shampoo in my hair, which if I’m being honest, I also apply it to lighten up my ever-growing roots that I should’ve had highlighted 4 months ago. I mean, who has time every six to eight weeks to get that done😬?! Did I mention that I pretty much stay in workout clothes most days because after my workout, I just didn’t feel like dressing UP in JEANS?
I’m certainly not the perfect mother either! We try really hard to choose healthy snacks and meals but my kids have eaten microwaveable macaroni and cheese for dinner and Little Debbie’s snack cakes more times than I would like to admit. Hey, sometimes it’s all about survival, right?
On top of all that, our house seems never clean and I always fall behind on housework. The floors need mopping and that darn laundry! Bleh! It seems to pile up before I know it! I swear that laundry pile grows exponentially!
At the end of each crazy day I want a home where all the busy demands of the day are shut out and we can just rest. I want to create a home for my people that’s a relaxing, calming place. A place that feels like home even though our house is a bare basic outdated rental. Even if you don’t rent, I bet you want that too. I’m basically an imperfect Hot Momma Mess that’s trying juggle life and make this busy house our home. That’s what For the Sake of Grace is all about though. It’s about giving yourself some grace and it’s completely okay if you don’t have it all together. No one does.
If you feel like you’re wingin’ it too pretty lady, we should totally be hot mess friends. I also want to give you a hug and some encouragement. I want to tell you that you’re doing a wonderful job with everything! So, cut yourself some slack, grab the extra cup(s) of coffee, get stuff done, and give yourself some grace, girl! We got this!
